Many do know know what RSO stands for? and who is Rick Simpson..... so lets get into this
Rick Simpson oil (RSO) is a cannabis oil product. It was developed by Rick Simpson, a Canadian medical marijuana activist. RSO differs from a lot of other cannabis oils because it contains higher levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). He was diagnosed with a Basal Cell Carcinoma back in 2003 and decided to conduct some research into a treatment plan. When he found THC (the chemical in the cannabis plant) killed cancer cells in mice, he started applying the full extract cannabis oil to is affected skin area and covered it with a bandage. After several days when he removed the bandage - the affected area had cleared up. So began is journey in producing the full extract cannabis oil for those in need and this is where he because infamous.
RSO is a full extract cannabis oil meant to be taken orally or applied topically. We will not go into the details of extraction however, the method is using solvents like ethanol, butane or Grain alcohol. The process is where the Flower or Bud of the cannabis plant is extracted when the alcohol solvent has evaporated - you are then left with a thick dark / black / brown sticky tar type of paste.
It is important to ensure that no solvent is left behind and if the extraction process is done correctly it should have no remains and should not be a liquid consistency. Should this be the case then the oil (resin) is not pure in that it has been diluted with a base oil or there may be residue of solvent.
Of course there are very strong RSO oils where there is alcohol left in the resin but this is then not RSO but rather diluted RSO oil.
Should the oil be very green, this indicates that the leaves were used to extract bits of resin close to the flower, and perhaps more leaves were used than actual BUD or flower. The green indicates chlorophyll from the plant leaves and is very easily extracted using an alcohol solvent.
Usually this product will be packed in a syringe as this offers a longer shelf life without much oxidation occurring.
The oils may vary in strength and uses, depending on the strains and also the correct decarboxilation process used, and if done correctly can produce a great RSO ( FECO) oil. Some are good for sleep and not that great for pain. Others great for pain but not that much for sleep. All in all the important point is that these oils are great for Cancer, reducing inflammation, enabling a person in severe pain to sleep better which will in turn aid healing.
The magic about this product is it greatly assists in killing cancer cells, assists pain, sleep and balances the body function as a whole. Many do not use it properly or use too little to kill cancer. There is a method that Rick Simpson in terms of dosing.
How should one dose the RSO oil?
The goal is to consume 60 grams of RSO over a course of 90 days. In the first week, you should use three doses a DAY, morning, afternoon and evening. The dose should be half the size of a rice grain. After the first week, the person should double the dosage every 4 days. It would take three to five weeks to reach a full gram of RSO in a day. Once this 1 gram a day is reached, the person should then continue on 1 gram until a total of 60 grams has been consumed in this period of 90 days straight.
What about side effects?
The most common side effect when using the Rick Simpson protocol is extreme fatigue and/or psycho activity. Over time the persons body will adjust to the higher dose and this could take three to four weeks however could differ from person to person.
